Stop the Windows Search, and set the Startup type in the Services Management console to "Disabled". Then uninstall Windows Desktop Search, and reinstall the latest version.

Yes - in Services in Administrative tools, set the startup type to Disabled. Then uninstall WDS using CCleaner.

There IS no Startup Type in Services. Where do I find it?

The services management console (services.msc) should have a column named "Startup Type". If not, find the service of interest, double-click it to view its properties, and on the General tab you should see a label named "Startup type" with a drop-down list next to it.
